A certification is worth checking when a role needs it. Calibre does not publish a universal “best of” list. It publishes the credentials verified before a match, against the issuing body, for the role you specified.
The list is short on purpose. A Frontend Engineer is not asked for a PCI Data Analyzer credential. A PCI Data Analyzer is not asked for a Kubernetes administrator credential. The role page states the set. The verification page states how the check is done.
Security
These are checked when the role touches application security, incident response, or security leadership.
- CISSP, CISM, and CCISO for security leadership and program ownership.
- CSSLP and Security+ where the work is secure development or a baseline security credential.
- CEH and GWEB where the work is attack-surface or web application defense.
Cloud and platform
Checked when the role owns a cloud platform or embeds security into it.
- AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, and AWS Security Specialty.
- AZ-305 and AZ-500.
- GCP Associate Cloud Engineer and GCP Professional Cloud Security Engineer.
- CKA, CKAD, and CKS for Kubernetes.
Engineering and audit
- Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE on the backend role that lists it.
- CISA and ISO 27001 when the role is audit or control testing.
- PCI-ISA, PCI-DA, PCIP, and PCI DSS when cardholder data is in scope. That set is for those roles. It is not a requirement for every engineer on the roster.
Banks, payments companies, and fintech teams have a sector page for that compliance framing. It is one sector. It is not the definition of the staffing service.
What “best” means here
The useful question is not which certification looks strongest on a résumé. It is which certification the role’s published spec says will be checked, and whether that check happened at the issuing body.
| Question | Where the answer is published |
|---|---|
| Which certs for this role? | Roles |
| How is the check done? | Verification |
| When do I see the record? | Once engagement is underway |
A certification that is not on the role spec is not part of the match.
FAQ
What are the best certifications for software engineers?
The ones the role requires and that can be checked at the issuing body. Calibre publishes that set per role, not a single ranked list for every engineer.
Do you accept a certification from a résumé?
No. Primary-source verification means the credential is checked against the issuing body. That rule is on the [Verification](/calibre/verification) page.
Are finance certifications required for every placement?
No. PCI, SOC 2, SOX, and GLBA framing lives on the finance sector page. A general engineering role is matched to the certifications on its own spec.
