CKAD — Certified Kubernetes Application Developer — is the CNCF/Linux Foundation credential for building and deploying cloud-native applications on Kubernetes, tested through a hands-on, performance-based exam rather than multiple choice.

What it verifies

CKAD confirms someone can design, build, and deploy applications for Kubernetes — application design, configuration, multi-container pod design, observability, and services and networking from the developer's side of the cluster, distinct from cluster administration itself.

CKAD isn't currently a named requirement on a published calibre° role — Platform Engineer checks CKA and CKS for cluster administration and security specifically.
